Scanner Vibrato bei 3.84 - genial!

habe soeben die Version 3.84 mk3 auf meinen Expander aufgespielt - Gänsehaut bei Einschalten der C1,C2 und C3 bekommen! Gratulation, das hast du für meinen Geschmack genial hinbekommen ! Super Sound jetzt !

Die war noch nicht offiziell freigegeben, aber nun gut. Es gab noch ein paar kleine Änderungen von FPGA-Datum 09102015 auf 13102015.

* Bugfix in HX3_tapering.exe concerning "Save All" function, will regard individual level scaling now
* Updated XB2 firmware (HX3 mk3/mk4 only)

Vielen Dank an Herrn Kunz für seine steten Bemühungen, dass ich endlich V1 bis V3 entscheidend verbessere. Ich war drauf und dran zu sagen "mir egal, ich lass das jetzt so". Nimmt ja sowieso kaum einer. Weit gefehlt -- sehr viele Hammond-Aufnahmen aus dern 40ern/50ern sind ganz ohne Leslie gespielt, nur mit V3.

Manchmal muss man mir einfach oft genug in den Hintern treten, damit ich Dinge (in diesem Fall VHDL-Sourcecode für das FPGA) über Bord werfe. Von denen ich mich nicht trennen mochte, weil ich schon so viel Zeit, Geld und Mühe darin investiert hatte, obwohl die komplette Nummer in einer Sackgasse endet. In der Wirtschaft gibt es, glaube ich, einen Fachausdruck für solches Verhalten...

Das jetzige Vibrato ist vollständig neu geschrieben, das hat genau einen Tag und eine halbe Nacht gedauert. Der Algorithmus ist viel kompakter und eleganter als der alte. An der vorherigen Version hatte ich viele Wochenenden gefrickelt und immer noch was dazugebastelt, bis nichts mehr in den Chip hineinpasste. War alles Blödsinn.

Man muss es wirklich GENAUSO machen wie von Hanert konstruiert. Nichts ver(schlimm)bessern und nichts weglassen. Kardinalfehler war, dass meine Modulation vorher ungefähr sinusförmig war (naja, dachte ich vor vier Jahren, da läuft etwas im Kreis herum, also Sinus...). Was für ein Fauxpas! Die Winkelgeschwindigkeit im Scanner ist konstant, also eine lineare Abtastung vor und zurück entlang der Laufzeitkette. Mit Sinus leiert es. Und dann bringt es nichts, die 8 Delay-Anzapfungen durch wohlgemeinte 1024 zu ersetzen, weil das digital halt so einfach möglich ist, viel viel einfacher als analog, viel sanfter interpoliert werden kann und nicht umständlich überblendet werden muss. Nein, es müssen 8 (bzw. 9 mit Anfang) sein.

Letztlich ich muss zugeben: Der Herr Kunz hatte recht. Verdammt recht! Das alte Vibrato war in C3 ganz OK, machte aber als V3 keinen Spaß. Jetzt einfach mal ausprobieren mit ein paar fetten Blockakkorden.

Jaja. Und dann noch das Basspedal. War zu leise, habe den Pegel jetzt um 50% angehoben. Mit dicken Lautsprechern dran sollte es jetzt passen. Die Mixtur "mit ohne Sustain" in der ersten Oktave passt zwar immer noch nicht so ganz hundertpro (meint Joey D.), sollte jetzt aber besser sein. Beizeiten mache ich nochmal extra-TGs für 1 bis 13, dafür war bislang kein Platz mehr. Habe ich jetzt aber dank des eleganter verschalteten Vibratos.

I have a big problem and none of the usual approaches have solved it. I updated to FW #384, FPGA 9/10/2015 without a problem but when I tried to update to FPGA 13/10/2015 it corrupted the HX3. It won’t allow me to install anything now, and normally I just use the AVR repair to start again, as it were. This also does not work for some reason. I’ve attached screen shots showing the AVR errors - it begins the process then shows a protocol error at different percentages. The Editor then shows an error suggesting a new or empty board!

Any ideas to help solve this? Normally I’ve been able to fix any corruption problems but this is driving me crazy since I can’t even go back to a previous version. Incidentally, I also had some issues when I tried to revert to v383c from v384 to do a comparison since I had a very good setup with 383c (I have all the backup files luckily). Maybe that will teach me to leave well alone if it’s working fine! :-)

Anyway, right now I have no sound at all so any help would be much appreciate it. It’s a mystery, especially as the AVR repair is not working. I tried it with Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 but it’s the same with all of them so I don’t think the problem lies there.

Update:

By a strange route I’ve managed to restore the HX3 to v384, FPGA 9102015. Simply because I’d tried everything else I decided to use Windows XP and the old blue (fake) USB interface, which still works with the old drivers after I'd restored the VID. Finally the AVR_repair worked and restored to v371 but without the FPGA data. I was then able to restore FPGA 05072015 and then (with fingers crossed) FPGA 9102015. Success!

Now I suppose I need to try again to update to FPGA 13102015 but before I do (and risk corrupting the HX3 again) I shall await any comments in case it is indeed a problem with the latest FPGA file.

Update again:

I risked the update again to FPGA 13102015 and this time it went ok and everything is working. Still, it was a strange couple of hours and simply using procedures I've already done many times. I had to use Windows XP with the old USB interface (which is blocked by the updated Drivers on Windows 8 and 10) before any repairs were successful. Anyway, it's ended well but will remain a mystery unless anyone else has a similar problem.

Sounds fine by the way, after a bit of Chorus/Vib tweaking.

just updated.
Everything went fine!
(Win7 64, mk4 with Extensionboard USB).

I used the Flashtool not the Remote.

CV tweaked too, a bit too hefty in the default for my taste....

After I finally got everything working here are my initial tweaks (though I might make more changes when I have played with it a bit longer):

Vib 1 & 2 settings as standard
Vib 3 Age 80, Freq Mod 160
Chorus Dry Mix 190
Chorus Vib Mix 70

Doesn't look like a big change from standard but definitely sounds more subtle and close to my B3. Let me know how it works for you. I'm playing through a Leslie 147 with a modified/restored tube four channel Hammond H1 amp.
