@Alibaba100

The shown example is only a single 3 way switch.
For proper using with function FAST - STOP - SLOW You need a double 3 way switch

If only Fast -Slow mode is wanted connect the RING permanently to GND/Sleeve. In this case only a simple switch is needed to connect
TIP to GND or not

Hi again,

Yes, I want a switch to do all three : SLOW / STOP / FAST

The switch I have oredered unfortunately looks more like the switch you gave a link to.
I'll give it a go anyway. Even Fast/Slow for now will be OK.

Thanks for your help, although I'm still a bit confused !!

I now understand which wires need connected together for each scenario - slow, stop and fast - but I'm not yet sure I can translate that fully into where I solder each wire onto a switch. I understand it for a 3-way double-switch "toggle" switch, like you have in a Gibson Les Paul. Not yet sure for a Telecaster switch. My searches on ebay - mostly do not mention if they are double or single switches. I'll just have to experiment.

OK,

Last question. I've lost the reel of solder I had.
I had a quick look online, and see there is a wide range of solder types.
Can you guys recommend a basic solder type for soldering up my selector switch, and for general soldering for guitar pickups, switches, pots etc etc ???
For instance, is there any type NOT suitable ?

Many thanks again !!

Today there exsist two types of solder
- leaded solder
- unleaded solder

first rule : never mix them together
If You do this perhaps a "cold soldering" is the result ie very bad or no electric contact

So if You solder often at old instruments it´s better to use leaded solder

Hi again !

Right, I have finally got a Leslie switch made up, after lots of head scratching, and one incorrect version that did not work !!

I bought a Fender Telecaster type 3-way switch.
Unlike the previously shown diagrams, showing double 3-pole switches, and a 6-poles-in-a-line switch, my switch has two rows of 4 poles !! It took me quite a while to work out what the hell I had in my hands.

If you are making a Leslie (half-moon type switch) and your switch is like mine, with 4 poles on the front and 4 on the back, this is how it works :
Looking at the switch from left to right (aligned for Slow / Stop / Fast)

Front Row : Pole 1 = Earth/Ground/Sleeve, contacts with the switch lever at :
Slow/left - Pole 4, Stop/middle - Pole 3, Fast/right - Pole 2 (right)

Back Row (poles the opposite way round) : Pole 4 = Earth/Ground/Sleeve
Slow/left - Pole 4 contacts with Poles 3, Stop/middle - Pole 2 Fast/right - Pole 1 (right)

So, how to wire it up ???

1. Get a stereo jack cable and cut a short length (long enough to go from the Leslie switch jack socket to where you want the switch on your organ. A spare stereo cable I had was ideal as one end had a right-angle stereo jack - so it won't stick far out the back of my keyboard. This stereo cable had the sleeve/ground cable, surrounding FOUR cables inside - white, black, red and green. White&black was "tip", red and green was "ring". I soldered those pairs together (white&black, and red&green).
The only way I could be sure of this was to use a"multi-meter" on "Continuity" setting.

2.Prepare a short piece of wire and solder between just Poles 2 & 4, of the front row.

3. Next, solder the Earth/Ground/Sleeve wires to both Pole 1 (front row) and Pole 4 (back row).

4. Solder the "tip" cables (white&black) to Pin 4, front row
5. Solder the "ring" cables (red&green) to Pin 1, back row.

This should now work with a HX3 sound engine module, or keyboard with this module inside (like the Mag C2 organ I hope to recieve tomorrow or Friday). I certainly hope so, anyway, ha ha ha !!!!! !

Here is the switch I bought - 4 poles at the front, and just visible, 4 poles at the back :

And below, is my drawing of how the switch works and how I wired it up.

Top 4 poles represent the front row, and the bottom 4 poles represent the back row.
The two thick black lines represent the poles that are contacted, in each position of the switch.
The "centipede" looking line is the short piece of wire connecting Pole 2 to Pole 4, of the front row.

E - means Earth/Ground/Sleeve, the rest should be obvious !!!

I hope this helps even ONE person !!!

Photos coming soon of my finished Leslie switch.
