Problem with "floating" volume/swell?

Beitrag von bovist »

Hi all,

there is an issue with the HX3's 1/4" jacks from manufacturer Cliff, UK which affects the swell pedal input. Sometimes the jack's middle switch contact does not close after removing the plug. So the HX3 controller's swell input is floating and not fixed to maximum volume.

If you experience "floating" volume when swell pedal removed, there is a quite easy fix: bridge the switch by a standard 220 kOhms resistor (may be soldered to middle two pins of jack on solder side).

hi,
In past years I often recognized some problem with 1/4" jacks and male connectors special those cheep ones (made in far east ? ).
The surface often looks very "hightech" with golden or chrome shine. The oppisite reality was : no contact :!:
Even measuring shorten contact by Ohmmeter from solderpin to tip delivers the result : no connection.
The devil en detail was the surface of the item.
At 1/4 jacks the problem causes in "return spring capability " of the contact. As I see it, it is a manufacturing problem of justage the contact when plastic enclosure is made. A litte lifting the passive pin will made it proper working.
